Why do rays "fans" make excuses to why they didn't go to their ballpark

Question

Don't tell me the ballpark is terrible. Don't tell me that the drive there isn't pleasant. And don't tell me that they weren't a good team before. The fact is that Rays fans a jumped on the bandwagon. If you were a true fan of a team you wouldn't say the things I mentioned.

The Rays will be a contender in the AL East for years to come. But the people in Tampa bay don't derserve it. They had about 16,323 a game this time last year. Right now they are getting 21,602.

Its because they were the WORST team in the league for years and now all of sudden they're winning somehow *cough* steroids *cough* and when a team starts winning more people start coming to the games and call themselves "fans." A TRUE fan loves their team and goes to games even when their team is in the basement.

I'm not a Rays fan, but when you've never had a winning season and you don't have a new stadium like other bad teams, there's no reason to go until they prove something to you as a consumer and potential fan.  Don't blame the fans of a bad, new team for staying out in the sunshine.  They had no good players, no history, and frankly no real selling point before just last year.

Well... some people are die hard fans but don't want to waste their time watching a horrible team. Doesn't mean they don't watch them on T.V. Get off the fans' swag.

Live there and then talk to people about excuses. Don't make bonehead comments about something you know absolutely nothing about. Do you know what Tampa Bay is? It's not a city.

Most fans watch the games on tv. Most fans work and most "fans" do make the drive even an hour away from the outskirts of Tampa. Show me the television ratings and then you can rant about what you feel the fans deserve.

you cant be a fan of a team if you're team has never shown you anything good and has never been good ever...

the reason why there are so many yankee fans is cuz the yankees even if they may be kinda bad now have been amazing for a long long time fishing in fans by the tons...and now the fans might wanna stick with that team....

yes if you were a true fan you would have been beside them by day one unlike a lot of tampa bay fans but this team hasnt made much of a name for it self starting from day one expect for all the 1 round draft picks they receive almost every year. but i agree i love the cincinnati reds and they suck but i still stand by them

All of Florida is like that. 2 world championships got the Marlins to last place in attendance. Truth of the matter is, Floridians don't care about baseball.

Its they way things are, losing teams dont have many fans, when they start winning their stadiums fill up with thousands of the most loyal people on earth.  Comon, do you think that craphole wrigley field was sold out when they were losing?  No, but for some reason cubs fans are the most loyal fans in baseball..... whatever
