Why do ref in wwe have different color shirts?

So we can figure out what kind of brand they are in. Blue shirts are smackdowns so we know that refree is from smackdown. Same with other brands too!

Having different color referee shirts is just another way to establish the brands as seperate shows.  A few year ago, referees on Smackdown started wearing the blue shirts as a way too gain a different look from RAW.  This change was made before ECW was revived. Black, along with red and grey are the colors that represent ECW.  Then ECW refs took on the black shirts to do exactly what Smackdown did, get a different look and establish themselves as a completly different brand.   However RAW, being the longest running show in WWE is keeping the traditional referee shirt. PEACE.
