Question:

Why do refundable tickets not cost more than non-refundable ones?

I was on the Spirit airlines website and in the process of booking a ticket. Right from the beginning it asked you to select from a scroll-down menu whether you wanted a refundable or a non-refundable ticket. I chose refundable, expecting the ticket price to be higher than when I had unknowingly done the non-refundable option before. To change or cancel a non-refundable ticket there is usually quite a hefty fee in addition to any difference between the new and old fares. Therefore, why would anyone choose non-refundable if they could just choose refundable? Is this too good to be true or am I missing something? What's the catch?

  1. Generally refundable tickets do cost more than non-refundable.  Sounds like you saw something rare or weird.

  2. I agree with what Jon said but there must be an explanation. If you really want to know why don't you ring them ? It could effectively be interesting to know why...

    Hope it helps

    Peace
