Why do reps say the surge worked when it did not?

THIS NEVER HAPPED AND STILL HASN'T!

Iraq has made alliance with IRAN, not with themselves.

The only reason the "surge" worked was because Sunni and Shia milita groups started dis-arming. NOT because we sent more troops. IF that would have been the case, we'd have won the war against insurgents a  long time ago.

General Patreus admitted that we are paying Sunni and Shia militias a combined 200,000 million dollars a year to cease violence. Is that the American way? To bribe groups you can't defeat?

If the Shia and Sunni's were to resume their bombings, it would be just like 2005.

And now these same fools are calling for a surge in Afghanistan, didn't these idiots learn from the Russians?

These other answers know NOTHING about guerilla warefare because it does not matter how strong the country is, if the population has a will and reason to defy you in the end you will loose. Evidently people don't learn from history ( vietnam )

Actually it did work. We just turned over another province to Iraqi control and the terrorist groups are leaving the country. Why do you wear blinders and continue to deny the truth?

The surge did work.  More insurgents bagged and tagged, less GI's killed, and more coalition control over wide areas.

Why do surges work?  Simple.  War is a chessboard.  How you play your pieces helps a lot towards winning, but adding new pieces to your side will generally tip the balance in your favor.  The Surge was simply the adding of new chess pieces (i.e., combat brigades) to our side.
