Why do republicans think Palin needs to be protected?

This isn`t a fist fight and the only weapons are words. If she`s going to be the old curmudgeon`s pit bull shouldn`t the "barracuda" get as good as she gives?

I haven't heard anyone say she needed to be protected.

The only thing I heard even remotely like that was Obama saying that the kids should be left out of it.
