ok, now i know what your thinking! This is a center right country! Wrong. If you look at any major poll, progressive ideas always win! For example more than 50% of this country wants single payer universal healthcare, g*y marriage, an end to the war in iraq, some form of gun controll, leaglized abortions, stopping global warming, and thats just the beginning

personally, i am a populist. I believe whatever the people believe. If the people wanted segragation again I would support it, not because I believe in it, but because I believe that the people are always right

and for all of you that say that the popular vote doesnt matter, you should realize that in a democracy majority rules.

  1. When was the last time you were polled?  I have never been polled and many people I talk to say the same thing.  I believe polls are taken to hit dermographics that will reflect the conclusions the pollster is looking to achieve.  Example:  if all polls were taken in the hood, the results would reflect a very left leaning constituency.

I don't believe Republicans worry about the right wing because most actually are right wing.

  2. The country does tend center right, but not by much.  A good example is that annoying blue/red state county by county map.  Of particular note, is that the rural areas tend to be more conservative or right leaning and the metropolitan areas liberal or left.

Yes a lot of people want health care, but the disagreement is that the government should provide it.  Government entities doing these types of things tend to perform much worse than privately run entities.  I've been in the military system and the private system.  The private system does some things better, but you go more often when it is free.  One thing I think they should change is that they should focus on preventatives like dental insurance does in allowing free cleanings twice a year.

g*y marriage, from the right some are okay with allowing the rights of wills, visitation similar to family and such, but not defining it as marriage.

We all want an end to the war in Iraq, the difference, again is in the parameters.  Conservatives want it won with a Democratic form of government that has a chance to influence the spread of freedom to the rest of the mid-east, (a lofty VERY long term goal) whereas the left just wants to leave and let them to attempt to finish it on their own with very little, if any help from us.

As for gun control, totally different concepts again.  Conservatives, want to control the criminals who will acquire guns even if you legally limit it.  Liberals (far left anyway) believe nobody should have them, limiting protection by law abiding citizens.

Legalized abortions, you only get that majority if the criteria is limited to risk of the life of the mother and instances of rape or incest.  Some feel that it is now used as a means of birth control rather than using a condom or plain old abstinence.

Global warming is an entirely other issue.  The argument there isn't if it is happening, but if man has caused it.  The far left would have you believe it is all us.  To believe that though, you would have to dismiss the errors in climate models, changes in sunspot activity, the natural cycles of the earth, etc.  Basically we don't entirely know, but everyone wants to be safe about it.

Energy falls into this as well.  The left thinks it should be all alternatives with no use of fossil fuels.  The right believes we should move to alternatives as well, but use the fossil fuels until technology can support movement to viable alternatives within the means of public availability and affordability.

There are a lot of sources to find this information, but it does take a  lot of effort and time to dig into it.  Just so you know what my bias may be I consider myself conservative.  I am ex-military, recent applicant for a CHL, bow hunter, and support abolishing the IRS and any form of property taxes.

  3. The country is actually center right but the far right voters votes count too..

I'm not sure what polls you are looking at but the numbers don't seem right to me but they depend on the actual questions being asked..

  4. They were aiming for the center left by picking a woman.

They screwed up and didn't vet her fully and got a church n**i.

Now they are trying to pretend that they did it on purpose.

The noise you hear is people who would have voted McCain anyway.

They are happy because they got some eye candy and an unexpected American Idol type celebrity.

He didn't gain any new votes.

Independents are Independent because they don't like radicals, right or left.

McCain's ticket took a decidedly radical swerve to the right with Palin.

  5. The United States is not a Democracy.

    It is a "Federal Republic"

  6. Populists follow the herd.
