  1. as far as for togo orders I don't know, but for parties of 8 or more that's just in case the people stiff the server and don't leave a tip, or of course unless the party is black people ...which is usually the case. blacks don't tip

  2. cuz they feel that larger parties tend to cheat the server out of tips.  Also, larger parties need more attention than smaller ones.

  3. They just like to stick it to the customers.

  4. Larger parties require a lot more work. Believe it or not, some people don't tip accordingly. Most restaurants don't charge grat for to go orders, but some do because, again, a lot of people won't tip. They don't realize how much work goes into packing an order to go.

  5. The waitstaff make less than minimum wage. Most of their income comes from tips. With to go orders people don't want to tip even though a member of the waitstaff took their order packaged it up and delivered it. Taking from that member of the waitstaff time and money that could have been spent earning money from a seated customer.

When it comes to parties I have seen waitstaff run their legs off for a party just to get a 3 dollar tip left on the table for a bill of over 150 dollars. The customers even stated that she provided excellent service. But a 3 dollar tip. for a party of 8 or more. Many times when a member of the waitstaff has a party of that size they lose their other tables that would have a high turn over rate and increase their income. If the employee doesn't make minimum wage the restaurant is supposed to make up the difference. (however many of them do not do this even though they should **Cough**WAFFLE HOUSE**Cough**

This is done to try and keep the employee from losing money with parties and to go orders that many would normally stiff them on.

  6. To pay for the labor and to go boxes, plastic ware.....etc.  It really adds up.  Generally someone other than waitstaff bags it....so they do not usually make much in tips.  I think its lame myself.
