Why do restaurants put lemon in water/softdrink?

Question

personally, i hate lemons and i always get annoyed when they put lemons in my drink - especially in my water, because water doesn't really have a taste, and when they put the lemon in no matter how fast you get it out, the water will always taste like lemon after that!!

is there any REASON why restaurants do this? other than to p**s me off?!
