  1. Do you mean the Scrum?

It's a way of restarting the game after an infraction such as a knock on, forward pass and penalties.

  2. it's called a scrum..it happens when one side drops the ball forward or does a forward pass...or kicks the ball dead...or opts for a scrum instead of a penalty...too draw people in..near the try line.

  3. PML:))

Very Funny, seriously though, they are talking about the ref!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Tortoise thing?

If you want slow and boring, go watch Gridiron.

  5. 'that tortoise thing' ha ha ha... well everyone above me has answered this, but in the old days that would turn your ears into cauliflowers

  6. it's called a scrum and it awarded to a team for several reasons.  Firstly, the opposition could have made a forward pass, or dropped the ball forward.  Or a team can elect to take a scrum if the ref gives them a penalty.  Lastly, if the ball is kicked dead (past the try zone) or is kicked out directly from a restart 50 then a scrum is awarded.

Teams choose the scrum for two reasons.  One it provides a stable platform of attack for a team's back line.  Since the ball can stay at the feet of the 8 man till the back line have arranged themselves and their play.  In addition, it sucks up all the forwards into one area.  In rugby, the forwards are usually the biggest strongest men on the field so having them  contained opens up opportunities for attack

The other reason is defensive, and again it's because it provides a stable platform for a team, but this time to kick for touch.  The fly-half can drop back into the pocket and have some protection from the opposition long enough to punt the ball down field
