Why do salespeople always recommend us to charge electronics so lon for the first time we purchase it?

  1. ok if you buy a remote control car some of the sales ppl say charge it for a least 12 hours you go home and charge it for 3 hours then you cant charge it up all the way anymore only how much it charges in 3 hours (That is what ppl tell me and my son it was)


  2. The old Ni-Cd and Ni-Mh batteries needed "forming" on the first charge, which was very important if the battery was to reach full capacity. Forming shapes the electrodes inside.

    However, newer Li-ion batteries, as used in all laptop and phones, do not need this forming process. If you buy a new phone and charge it half-way, it won't affect the battery at all.

    I think the "charge it overnight for the first time" thing is left over from the old batteries. It no longer is so important.
