For example, a belted F# from Whitney Houston may sound lower than a belted F# from Aretha Franklin. Why is that?

  1. One F# from one singer might be an octave lower or higher than the other. Also, both singers have different voices.

  2. It's placement in their voices. It is where the note sits in their range. Aretha Franklin has a very deep set voice and although she can hit "high" notes, those high notes are at the top of her voice, and her strength is set lower than them so when she goes to sing them it is a stretch for her and comes across as being a lot higher than it actually is. Whereas Whitney may be able to sing a lot higher than that F# and so when she sings it it sounds far more natural and grounded in her voice, giving the illusion that it sounds lower

  3. Because of the different Keys
