Whats the point of writting finals

you slave all year to get a high mark like a 85 %

then the final comes you get a 70 it goes down to 75

  1. The final exams are supposed to test if you really know the material that you supposedly learned throughout the year. If you get 85s throughout the year, it's decent, but it's much easier to get an 85 on a test that only tests a few concepts rather than a final exam to test the entire group of concepts. So if you get a 70 in the final exam, it's obvious that you didn't really learn the concepts and are only able to absorb and learn information for a chapter by chapter basis, rather than for a year by year basis.

  2. They aren't that bad.

It will weed out the slackers v.s the kids who work hard in school - especailly in college.

  3. I felt the same way until I became a teacher.  I never scored well on my final exams when I was in HS.  So this is what I do with my HS students.  You (meaning students) slave all year I agree.  You should slave creating the best notebook you can which should include notes, tests, quizzes and handouts.  When it comes time to take the final what I do is I allow the kids to use their notebooks.  That way there they will use the very thing that worked so hard to create.  I think that is fair.  That way teachers can still assess what a student learned and the student doesn't feel so overwhelmed.  Hope this helped.
