  1. for stability and balance

  2. For some people, this is simply how they learned to ski, and not having them throws them off...after I learned to ski with poles, I tried going without and I was not able to keep my balance and was not as confident..

  3. They are usually just used for additional balance.

  4. Simply for balance.

  5. Balance, and to hit the gates, and they do use them, but it goes so fast you don't really see it

  6. Poles also are used for balancing even if they aren't touching the ground.

  7. i have finished the french ski school when i was 10 also i am the french academy.  skiiers use thepoles in the halfpipe for balance when landing and also to emphasise their tricks.  if u look a flip without pole doesnot look as good as with poles.  asw ell as that they use them to get up to speed and to revert (freestyle halfpipe only) they need them to change the angle thy attack the quater pipe at. they dont want to go straight up as they will lose spreed and they dont want to go straight down. the best ange is probably 45 degrees so that they get more speed (from g forrce) and also come out of the rick at another good angle
