Question:

Why do small girls become police officers?

I saw several episodes of Cops where a female officer was overwhelmed and fellow cops swarmed to her location for assistance. Obviously, you cannot discriminate against women but dont women ever feel like they are just not strong enough for the position?

  1. Cops and the other t.v. shows usually put up the videos that sell and are more "entertaining" to the public. Women are built differently so therefore they work differently. They go through an academy just like the men and have to meet certain requirements just like the men. If they are not capable of passing the requirements they would not be an officer. Male or female officer in trouble cops will "swarm to a location" to provide whatever assistance is necessary. Most women I have worked with pull their own weight & take pretty good care of themselves.

  2. I had a female partner who was 5'4" on a good day and never weighed more that 130 lbs. She had a command presence and we rarely had a problem in a fight. We worked in  big city public housing high rises and got into plenty of dicey situations on a daily basis.

She had always wanted to be the police, just as I did, and she worked hard to be the first female officer on a couple of departments.

I'm 6' 230 lbs. I also was forced to work regular patrol with a guy who was 6'3" 275lbs. and all of it muscle. I say forced because he was useless in a fight and had an attitude that would want to make your sainted grandmother want to punch him.

  3. because it's what they love is why they do it. I'm only 5'5 but I grew up with 4 older brothers so I can hold my own(they're all 6'0-6'4 tell me how fair that is? lol), I'll admit a 6'4 200some lb guy is a more deterring officer from a view point. but I'm not intimidated by anyone; if i was, or other "small officers" were, we wouldn't stay in this field. it's not the size of the dog, but the fight in the dog.

I've seen those videos too, that's happened to male officers too, it's not their size that gets them in that position, it's their poor decision in confronting that individual and how they positioned them self in a safe distance and always being aware of their surroundings, once you let your guard down you're screwed.

  4. I agree with you to an extent. I personally believe women can make fine detectives for the most part. there are some women out there that can do what a man can including standing to pee. Small guys shouldnr be out in the rough and tumble either. I have seen it both ways and they always have more to prove right off the bat than larger people do. I work in EMS and am frequently around police.

  5. I totally agree with you, to a point. I want to become an officer, but a little afraid i can't hold my own ya know? I used to wrestle on the mens team, and do alot of sports, but this is different.

  6. You have observed acurately.  The fathers of all small female police officers really wanted them to have been born boys, not girls. The results of Daddy's constant rejection has produced a peculiar strain of females who want and need to become men so as to taste but a crumb of acceptance from thier fathers. They see themselves as physically incapable of assuming men's identities due to the fact that few men grow up to be less than five feet and two inches tall. At  this point, crushed by the weight of a double portion of the 'small man's complex',they reason that a career in law enforcment, a few hundred tostesterone injections and 25 years of accumulated anger and dispare could make for a moment their fathers recognize them as the sons they had always wished their daughters could have been.

  7. Yeah, I think so too.  When they are getting tossed around on Cops episode or those wildest police videos it is a shame, and sometimes makes law enforcement look like David (From David & Goliath bible stories).  But hey, our system doesn't tolerate 'discrimination' so there you have it.
