Question:

Why do smokers get paid the same as non-smokers when...?

they spend 10 minutes every 2 hours (or more frequently) out having a smoke break? Over the course of a day that's 40 minutes or more of "down time" they're being paid for. This certainly is not fair to those who do not smoke.

  1. The good news is that a lot lot companies are cracking down on this, because it's pi**ing them off too.  One of my major pet peeves are the employees who take their smoking breaks outside the main entrance to a building that I am trying to enter.  Cough, choke, cough...  My solution... they all need to be put in a smoking room with no ventilation, so they can smoke and inhale the second hand smoke as well.  Eventually, the smokers will just smoke themselves to death, while not taking away the innocents with them.

  2. I know!! That pisses me off so bad...so I have decided that when they all go for a smoke break that I will stop working until they get back.

  3. great question!

  4. unless its in a company's by-laws, they can do that. i'm a smoker and only have 1 cigarette throughout my entire 8-9 hour day. i have that cigarette while out on lunch. some people abuse it, while others (like me) are more considerate.

maybe you should check in with your boss.
