So we can carry water, "other" beverages, extra hats, snacks, cell phone, etc. I personally don't like to pay for a locker so I bring along the things I think I might need that day.

And Davey, just because you don't see a reason for it, doesn't mean that do it because I see other people do it. I take a hydration pack because I don't want to go into the lodge every time I want a drink of water. I prefer to spend as much time on the mountain as possible. I also have meds and a snowboard tool, de-icer for the locks on my car, etc. I also don't want to pay $6 for a locker, and people steal stuff up there all the time so leaving it stashed somewhere is not a good idea.

For me the pack is all about convenience and keeping me out on the mountain rather than having to run to the lodge every hour.

Only reason for a backpack is if you're in the back country or a lifty. Anyone else wearing one is just a tool.

Backcountry: shovel, water, tools..

Lifty: things to keep them occupied while in their booth

you don't need to carry stuff like water and hot cocoa around when you can jsut leave it at the lodge.. now if you wanna get trashed, I'm cool with that, but anyone who wears one and says "I use it for water and my mp3 player" is just being stupid and doing it because they see other people doing it.

Most snowboarders that use backpacks hit up the backcountry a lot. So they need to carry their snowboard, water, little shovel, cell phone, mp3 player, snowboard tool, and other stuff like that.

typically, only back country snowboarders wear back packs to carry all there materials or water.  take a look at burton.com and just look at the amount of accesories snowboarders can use. i dont think anyones pockets are that big.
