Question:

Why do so few people demonstrate anymore?

I grew up in LA, and I was reading about the Brown Berets (our current mayor was one of them) demonstrating for better education and social justice. The public school system in LA is still as bad if not worse given the numbers on test scores and dropout rates, but no one is demonstrating. Why is it that?

  1. People do demonstrate. Question is why people in Los Angeles do not care enough to demonstrate.

in 2004 during the Republican National Conference in NYC 250,000 people were demonstrating against the President and his agenda. The media did not cover the 250,000 people outside of the conference for they wanted to show the 80,000 people attending the conference.

The WTO is constantly being targetted by protesters, yet again the media refuses to tell the public about the protests or the reasons behind them.

Conservatives refuse to ask questions about big business, believing that anything that supports capitalism is good for America. And our media outlets are controlled by corporate interests who are the capitalist interests.

They want Americans to believe all is well and good in America, and protests show that people are concerned with the way things are being done.

There is a great independent film called "The F Word" about the NYC protest in 2004. "Outfoxed" is also a great documentary about how the Media controls what we see and are starting to believe in this country. I suggest you look for both of them, and find support for your concerns on the internet.

  2. That's wild, your mayor a former BB who was involved in demonstrations for improved education. Now he's a politician holding a public officer elected by the voters in his age range besides others and his knowledge of the education crisis is not addressed. Goes to show you how politics corrupts. One would assume that this example of your mayor shows that demonstrations do not achieve desired results.
