Why do so few people look out the window when flying?

I love looking out the window when traveling by plane. When traveling cross country, I love to follow where we are at the moment and look at a map. I also enjoy the map on the TV screen that shows our exact location. Finally, I like to look down at the communities from the plane wonder what life is like there and compare the view from the plane and how I remember the town from the ground.

When I look around the plane, it appears that few people who sit at the window share the curiosity I have. Most are not looking out the window, even as we are flying low over the Nations Capital or a scenic mountain area.

Why is this? Fear? Lack of curiosity, or what?

I think it is a variety of things.  One could be that people have flown so much they no longer see any novelty in it.  Another one could be that people like to look cool in front of others.  Some might think that if they show interest in something like that they will look like nerds, which is silly.  I always enjoy looking out the window and I have flown a lot in my life.

I fly NWA a lot so i have a world perks elite account (100908261974) so i get upgraded to first a lot for free. I always get a window. I think its because of not being scared but of just have more interesting things to do. If flying on NWA i reccommend you get a window. If you have a an elite account use it if you don't use mine. It helps you get upgraded and access to elite clubs at airports. Hope this helps.

I don't know. I look out of the window from the time I get on until I  get off. There is always something to see, unless it is night and the sky is overcast. Then, I am disappointed because people insist on  having lights on inside the cabin, so I cannot see the stars.

I'm not sure.

Maybe they are scared of heights and maybe they are scared of flying.

I fly all the time and my face is constantly glued to the window.

I don't care how goofy I look. I, like you, love to watch the terrain go by.

Most likely people don't have any interest in it.

I noticed that too!!! Being a pilot, I always look out the window when possible, Honestly people are boring. I guess not as many people are as creative as you.. If you like the view from your little windows you should check out my views :
