Why do so few people skip out on a hotel/motel bill even when paying cash?

How would it be possible for a hotel/motel to track you down if you don't show any identification?

  1. They require credit card for incidentals.

    If you pay cash, you have to pay up front.

    Cost of theft is built into cost of room as well.

    Some places that have mini-bars have sensors that automatically charge your card if you take something from the mini-bar.

    If a place doesn't require any ID, they don't really care about theft of items.


  2. Most hotels require a credit card when you check in - to guarantee payment -

    If you find a place that accepts cash- they will make you prepay it along usually with a security deposit until you check out.

  3. When you pay cash, you pay up front so how is it they are skipping out on the bill?  Is this a trick question?

  4. It's impossible to do...they always make you provide a credit card for incidentals.
