I am a Black Hispanic and I've noticed that some Hispanics who are Black claim to be otherwise .I'm proud to be Black and I'm not ashamed of it,It's really sad.I feel as though people think anything other than Black is good. It's great to embrace your culture, but why not embrace your race too?

  1. It's common in Latin and South American society, unfortunately. There's such a stigma attached to acknowledging one's African heritage, it's really mind boggling to me. Many Afro Cubans and Dominicans will never say that they're black.

  2. I think this is mostly a problem with the Dominican Republic. They were thought that all Dominicans were the perfect blend of African, Taino, and European. Some even go as far as calling themselves "Dark Indians".

  3. Unfortunately, that is the world in which we live; a society that believes the lighter the skin the better the person.  It is a terrible thing, but it is a reality.  When the world as a whole learns that skin tone and behavior are two separate/different things or that they do not go hand in hand, all will be a lot better.  Until then, all we can do is love ourselves and each other, no matter what you look like.

  4. well i think its because of history-

black always being seen as not smart, beautiful- all from slavery days-

i think people deny it because of the racism blacks face throughout the world- dark skin or coarse hair- things like that-

i think that has a lot to do with it-

whites have always been seen as pretty, smart, etc-

and blacks havent been seen like that-

hundreds of years of lynching, rapes, genocide, whipping, living on the plantation, families split up- work from sun up to sun down- slavery for 400+ years-

the horrors of the middle passage-

the horrors of jim crow laws- the KKK-and other white supremacist groups-

so i think that has a lot to do with it- white was put first- and blacks were put last- based on physical differences, cultural differences-

also some hispanics and native americans try to pass- pass for white- try to be something they aren't-

perms, weaves, bleach, plastic surgery to take away black features-

ghetto- loud- ignorant- teen pregnancies-drop outs- results of slavery too- learned helplessness-all of the above-

may God be with us all-

    for black is beautiful!

  5. Look, there is nothing wrong with being black it how you are and there is no exact explanation why some people are black and some people are white!

  6. Too many.

  7. its nice to see that your a proud black hispanic... don't worry about the others there just sell outs do we really want someone that don't really want to except they are black?

  8. Because they think they are aliens

  9. If my kids had that reaction, I'd feel highly unnerved!

But as long as they're not mine - I figure they can choose as they like.

I don't feel like begging anyone to join my crew.

  10. You think that's bad? One word: Beyonce.

  11. It comes the stigmatism of being black, and white culture is the preferred culture and society. I feel sorry for some Hispanics that feel that way. They are missing out on a rich experience of their own history....

  12. My parents are from Cuba and I have dark skin but I mark Hispanic under enthnicity on test. I don't deny bieng ever cuz I am but I think some people only go as Latino because they look more latino than black.

  13. who really cares......I just worry about ME

  14. Hispanic is considered to be its own race.

  15. I'm black and Brazilian and I embrace my black heritage. It would crazy not to.

  16. There is a lot of confusion in the Islands especially about what is black, some are confused with being black american, although there is nothing wrong with that, they do not identify with this. I however was raised by very open minded and people who like to plant rootsand also know their roots. Our ancestors are actually from West Africa, grandpa on moms side was Haitian, and we cannot figure his ancestry totally out yet. I am so proud to be Afro latina/Black Dominican, although I do have a hard time with the other races cause I am not black enough not spanish enough(although this is not a race) and not white enough. Go figure. I know when the census comes I am a black woman living in America.

  17. Becuz africans dont want them...or to acknowledge them as bein frm there.

  18. There are some black hispanics who do claim black. My family is one of them but i do know what you're talking about. I guess  it has to do with where they dwell and the culture.

  19. Its A Slavery Thing That Happend Along Time Ago When The Spanish Brought The Slaves Over.
