Question:

Why do so many clubs have absurd dress codes?

Having recently returned from a holiday in Zante where the bars and clubs didn't bother with dress codes I realised how much I detest nights out in the UK; always having to convince door-staff I'm worthy of being allowed in to spend my money with them. Half of all the clubs I visit turn me away because my jeans are a shade too light, or my trainers are the wrong style. Why turn away my business? Why do they think they are so exclusive that I should only be allowed in if I am wearing black shoes? I'm not talking about big-name venues here, I'm referring the local pub that has decided to install a DJ, put bouncers on the door and consider that no one in the town is smart enough to be allowed in anymore. Club dress codes are just so d**n pretentious and unnecessary! Why?

  1. Certain people want to feel that they are in an "exclusive" place, and are willing to pay for the privilege. The club owner is trying to maximize profit and minimize problems. They may do this with the music selections, the dress code, or with specials geared to a certain group. If it was not profitable for the owners, they would not do it!!

If you do not want to follow the rules that the club has set, find a different place to go.

  2. The same reason dogs l**k their butts. Because they can.
