  1. They have put a lot of time and effort into that moment. I guess it's just a sadness, a joy, an emotional release of building tension.

  2. Because they have devoted their whole life to training for that one moment. That one competition. If they win they are relly happy derr, if they lose all there training is for nothing.

  3. That is because they spent every moment of every day for many years working their body and soul into the most perfect shape possible to be able to achieve their dream. They had to give up every little pleasure ordinary people indulge in from time to time. This moment in time, when she is standing on the podium  with a gold medal in her hand representing her country and people, has been her goal for years. Have you ever worked that hard in your life? Do you know what it feels like to concur your fears, inabilities and weaknesses? Let me tell you: it is overwhelming. That is why you see tears in her eyes: she is having out of body experience of joy. Now, if after all the endless work, dedication and single mindedness, she was not able to achieve her victory, she is experiencing complete devastation. Those are bitter tears of regret.

  4. Because women cry. That is life.

  5. Women are emotional.  It is good to get it out and not bottle our feelings in. ;-)

  6. Generally, women tend to be more emotional when they achieve something as special as winning at the olympics.  Men tend to internalize the triumph, but women are taught from a young age that it is okay to express their feelings.  As far as losing at the olympics, it is probably that they have put so much effort into training for the last few years, and they may feel that they have let down their country and themselves by not winning.

  7. Wouldn't you cry if you won or lost in the OLYMPICS...Lol..What a dumb question..!

  8. It is a result of overwhelming emotions and the ability for it to be socially acceptable.  Perhaps we would see more men crying if it were socially acceptable for them as well.

  9. For the same reason that many male athletes do - it's emotional.

Male athletes don't? Huh? Where have you been? What about our Taekwondo guy that lost? Craig Pickering? And that's only British athletes in the last couple of days. Ho hum.

I don't think any less of them. Crying is a natural reaction, nothing to be ashamed about. And anyone (well, nearly anyone) that gets to the Olympics has my respect.

  10. They're sensitive people.

  11. men cry too,but women do it so that the officials would give them do overs.

  12. Only women bleed.  There is nothing wrong with crying whether when you are happy or sad.  I feel bad when I see a male athelete who is close to crying, but cannot let the tears fall.

Crying is not a weakness, its an expression of emotion.

  13. Hey, where were you when some of those men were crying?

  14. Part of the reason may be conditioning.  We learn that it's "safer" for women to cry if you're a girl, than if you're a boy from an early age.

The other reason may be hormonal.  See good explanation below:

  15. i am watching the olympics right this minute and a lad that lost the martial arts was crying so both sexes are doing it what you on about?

  16. because women are sensitive.

I cry when I'm happy and sad

  17. Emotional responses are not limited to female athletes. I've seen male athletes respond by crying as well. For some of these athletes the Olympic experience is truly overwhelming.

  18. I saw a male gymnastic cry a few nights ago.  They guy that was the first person to get an Olympic medal for his country..

    I forget the country.

  19. Passion for the sport hun. Plain and true passion.

edit: P J, both men and women cry. It's life. Men are just discouraged from it by society, but they definitely do. They are just as sensitive as women.

edit: Yes I said it, men are just as sensitive as women.

  20. Duh?

    That's what women do!

    So what was your point?

  21. I find it cute, but women are that way
