Why do so many men dislike or even distain cats?

What is it about the cat that so many men dislike?

This is a true story.  When I was young a 98 year old women told me to never trust a man who didn't like cats.  When I asked her why, she replied, " cats are independent and they can't be controlled.  These men dislike cats because they can't control them.  These are also the same men who try to control their women."

basically it is a case of you can not train them to stay off ,tables counter tops cars boats etc...etc...If you say you can I believe you except when you are gone then they ignore the rules. no real training plus I am allergic and hate them they stink can't flush the toilet hair flies everywhere.

I don't hate cats, but I hate people who have their animals live indoors with them (both cats and dogs.)

I do think dogs are most useful. Dogs scare off burglars by making a lot of noise. Cats are useful to catch mice. Other than that. I don't feel the need to be around animals.

They say that the choice of a pet reflects the preference men have towards their partners.

Men that like cats prefer women who are elegant, "wild" and independent.

Men that like dogs prefer women that are less independent, a kind of "needy" so they follow them everywhere :-)

I had some nice cats myself, and I'm a guy, but a good bit of cats don't do anything. They eat, drink, p**p, and sleep. If they like to be around you they will lay on you, dig their claws into your belly, and put hair everywhere. Mine didn't do those things, but lots of them do. But I consider myself a dog person because dogs are loyal, trusting friends. I love my dogs, and to the person that said they hate it when dogs/cats are in the house, I have to say this. Why don't we put you outside in all weather, call you a fleabag, and be ashamed to let you in our cars? Not fun, huh? I am also getting a squirrel soon(I think).

well i am sure many men love cats, but i dont like cats really i mean kittys are nice, but a freind of mine who has 5 Cats, and 4 dogs his parents yeah i no the Cats his mom all got at once, but yeah All his Cats are anyoing

They Only like to be around you when they want

They dont care to Be pet all the time or be around lots of people

They arent really happy to see you

They dont do tricks like dogs

they are Depresiing at least my freinds cats are, all they do is EAT, DRink water and sleep and MEow they never ever like to be around him or me the only people they like are His mom. and They ARE SO d**n LAZY

That's more of a cultural condition. Men are raised to be the stereotypical "man". One part of being this is to like all things that presents masculinity by societies standards. Liking big tough looking dogs is seen by society as being manly. Liking cats, because they appear feminine by societies standards, means your less manly than you should be. Because of this, even if a guy really does like cats, will choose to put on the image that he hates them in order to appear more masculine. Some guys put on the act for so long that they end up believing that they really hate cats. Some men actually do hate cats, some actually like cats, and many those who like cats are heterosexual, masculine men.

People should simply be themselves.

I like cats, they clean up after themselves and dont require 2 much of your attention.  You kick a dog and it will come back, kick a cat and they will leave you.  Most dog owners, cant handle everyday people.

Dogs c**p all over the place and stink up everything.  I see people driving with thier dog in their lap and I want to run them off the road.  Some people love their dogs more then their own kids and that is pathetic.  

It especially pisses me off when people bring thier fleabag to public places such as the mall, supermarket, doctors office etc...just leave that stupid thing at home.  (ofcourse if you are a seeing eye dog,,,exceptions should be made)

Because they destroy things. My fiance loves our cats really, but he does get upset when they tear up carpet, furniture, and make messes like around their litterbox or when they throw up hairballs on the carpet.
