Question:

Why do so many online news stories have to say Eight Belles was "destroyed" after her injury?

I think it is kind of disgusting how so many stories written say this living creature was "destroyed" after her fall. It is like they are talking about a battleship or something. Is it some special horse industry terminology, or just writers with a very warped view of life?

  1. The story is everywhere on the news in the paper,Eight  Belles was a good filly, but what happened to her was tragic, and sometimes the writers have every warped life, but to have the story every where is getting way out of proportion.

  2. That's the usual terminology used for when an animal is put down. I don't understand why they can't just say euthanized. Or better, they could write about how her owners and trainers murdered her by running her when she was just a two year old, before her bones were fully developed. Just what I think.

  3. it is true

  4. The reason such words as "destroyed" are used is because the words "tortured for a lifetime and then murdered in a more humane way" would bring attention to the reality of what really happened.  Humans love to live in denial and pretend things are okay when they are absolutely not okay.  What happened to Eight Belles is not okay!

  5. got to sell newspapers!

  6. This is just the lingo of the horse indusrty. Like every sport, there are terms we use. When a horse breaks down, they are usually humanely put down, desrtoyed. It sounds yucky, but its the lingo.
