  1. For nonprofit organizations and charities, offering in-house training is usually a low-cost way of providing a benefit to staff members. Most nonprofits can't pay wages at the same rate as their for-profit counterparts -- if you work in marketing for a business, you are going to make a LOT more than if you work in marketing for a nonprofit -- nor can they provide many of the other benefits that for-profit employees enjoy. In-house training, often done pro bono or at a reduced rate by a consultant or corporate employee on loan, is a way to offer nonprofit employees a chance at career growth/development. Employees who have the opportunity to learn new skills or expand their existing ones tend to stay at organizations longer and be more productive.
