  1. It might be something to do with the faces put on TV to represent feminist organisations: ordinary-looking, slightly red-cheeked, women with bad hair and make-up.

Personally, I know some really attractive feminists, but when a woman is giving her all to a cause, looking like an MTV starlet and make-up are probably the last things on her mind.

  2. Thankfully, I think that is only true here.  In real life you almost never encounter such narrow minded stupidity.

  3. Same reason that many people assume that men who are against feminism have small penises and hate women.

Its easier to just assume this and say that than actually engage in meaningful debate.

  4. Attractive women use the feminist ideals to take more power from men. Attractive women cite feminist literature and feminist laws, only when it is to their advantage.

When an attractive woman can't get what she wants by using feminists complaints, she simply finds a nice man and exchanges sexuality for male action.

Nothing has changed for 10,000 years.

  5. I LOVE to be feminine, and I'm quite attractive.....I'm also a feminst. it's a lack of education on the subject and a really sexist attitude that doesn't like it when ladies speak out of turn.

  6. My answer is going to raise some ire, but here goes:

Feminism, in the popular mind, is responsible for denying femininity (because that is seen as an imposed behaviour by " the patriarchy") and the concomitant use of cosmetics and feminine behaviours and so on.

Whether this is true of today's feminists, I personally rather doubt because many of the more avid feminists I have met are the attractive types and they focus more on other areas where they consider feminist movements should be focusing their efforts.

From a relational point of view, I admit to playing the Devil's Advocate somewhat, and will have a go at feminists I know for wanting the old manners and customs (erroneously called "chivalry" on Y!A all the time), yet will make stands against any behaviours and situations that seem to favour men.  It is all done with good humour, but it does underscore my long-held view that feminism does try and re-write the behavioural and relational handbook in such a way that it makes the relationships that a feminist has a tad hypocritical if she holds fast to the "party line".  I am not referring here to femininity though.

Part of the issue with behaviour, is that a feminist may choose to behave in a certain way, and that will be interpreted differently by different people.  Ultimately the correct interpretation or reason held by someone for their behaviour, mannerisms and so on should be their own.  I don't believe that wearing make up and being feminine is being traitorous to the feminist cause, even if it appears hypocritical to some.

  7. I thought I might aswell answer one question in this section while I am drunk, (just had a good laugh around town looking for a live band, non were playing i'm afraid, but hey ho...) I believe that feminists come in all shapes and sizes, I might date a woman that is utterly gobsmackingly attractive and also a feminist, infact, I expect a gobsmackingly good looking woman to be a feminist, since all to often, good looking women are expected to prove to the world that they are more than a bunch of brain cells that know how to please a man. I would rather date a feminist than someone who is out of touch with such areas of society. A hot body, fine, an intelligent mind, fine, a knowledge and understanding of how to demand respect for that body and mind, amazing.

  8. Usually this attitude comes from fearful men who are insecure and afraid of strong beautiful intelligent woman.  Or weak woman who think that because they need a man to take care of them every other woman should too.  It's easier just to say "oh those feminists are butch dykes who hate men" rather than the truth "there are attractive independant woman who can think for themselves and take care of themselves".

  9. Because they stay angry and resentful all the time.  That's just not attractive and feminine.

  10. Feminism itself is unnatractive as it assumes that all men are pigs while women are perfect angels.

  11. The haters are uneducated and expect women to be big breasted bimbos.  Feminism is a major threat to their manhood so they assume that fems have balls, which in fact they probably do have more balls than women haters.

  12. Probably because feminists in the past have criticized women for wearing makeup and feminine clothing.  The founding mothers of the movement burned bras.  Not very attractive!

  13. that is just a stereotype from the 1980s that people use to bait the fems around here with, nobody really believes it, feminists choose to believe that deliberately offensive trolling questions are a reflection of attitudes in real life because they enjoy and thrive on feeling like victims.

just a foot note, there are certainly attractive feminists out there but i find sleeping with someone who has dismissed the male/female differences/dynamics unattractive and tend to have a friends only attitude towards women who think like that.

  14. Because who cares what they look like... once you hear the hateful things that fall from their mouth. I can't stand being around a big mouth feminist!

  15. feminism has ruined society - and I can say that as I am female and when very young was led to argue for feminism - over time I have seen the damage and changed my view - but to answer your question of course you can be feminine and attractive and a feminist - you dont need to be butch to want what men have but it has kinda backfired for those who merely wanted the choice to work and get equal pay etc now females are actually expected to work and abandon their children to be raised by others in day care - this was not the desired outcome - choice was choice but not now.

  16. You are right many feminist are feminine and atractive. Politics does not necesary mean that a person will not take of himself/herself.

  17. As long as I can be a vegetarian that only eats meat on every day but tuesday morning then feminists can be attractive.

  18. isn't that such a silly myth?  i love those "this is what a radical feminist looks like" pins and bumper stickers - women from every sort of look and demographic are feminists.  millions of men are feminists too!  i think that just about every actress is a feminist - what female actor isn't concerned with equal rights, equal pay, and opportunities to show off their skills?  therefore, the beauties that so many men worship are feminists too.  how frightening!  :-)

i think it's just one of those myths that was created to keep women away from feminism.  it makes the movement easier to demonize and criticize.  it makes it seem like feminism isn't mainstream and you have to be a total weirdo to appreciate equal opportunity.

  19. Cause they don't want to show it off that's why.

  20. The people who make this assumption are not worth knowing or wasting thought on. They're like racists or homophobes.

    Forget them.
