Why do so many people claim to religous, but then don't follow the bibles teachings?

I have realized that most people consider themselves religous and do believe in God, they also believe that they will go to heaven. However these same people lie and have s*x before marriage like the rest of us. It seems like people pick and choose wich rules they want to obey in the bible and basically do watever pleases them. So how can these people call themselves religous and think they will still go to heaven?

Dont worry about other people you are only responsible for yourself. If you judge dont cry when other judge you.

Jesus comented that  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœNot everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness." (Matt 7:21)

So he fortold that not everyone professing to be Christian is a true Christian. Only those doing God's will.

In regard to Jay T's answer. Buddy, God doesnt forgive willfull sin. If you persist in sin when you know its wrong, there is no forgiveness left. A person must  have a deep heartfelt sorrow for the wrong done, and have a determination to turn from such a course or practice. (Ps 32:5; 51:4; 1Jo 1:8, 9; 2Co 7:8-11) He must do what he can to right the wrong or damage done. (Mt 5:23, 24) Then he must pray to God, asking for forgiveness on the basis of Christ’s ransom sacrifice.
