Why do so many people feel the need to worship an imaginary entity, aka God

Most common reason is because they were programmed to think they need to believe in something, either by their parents/family or just by society. If you were left on a deserted island as a toddler you might end up believing in different things ie; the moon, the sea or the sun(I assure you God wont send an angel to let you know about his existence, i know cuz he didnt send jesus to pre-columbian america ;) Now imagine you were left on the island with a religious nut, you would grow up to be a believer, of his god. Its also been proven our natural intellect and curiosity creates the need to know why-how-who thus making us believe in stuff, too bad the intellect doesn't question must of the BS out there and thats why you see super smart ppl in cults and going to churches and ppl taking advantage of this "need" to know more.
