Why do so many people find it more difficult to back into their own driveway?

than they do to back out of the same driveway?

  1. Because backing in, they're afraid to hit something, like their garage door or wall.  They're backing into a small space.  Also they are backing up a slope, usually.

    Backing out into the street is easier since there is a much bigger space and a large margin for error.


  2. For a series of reasons:

    - having poor meneuvering notions, especially where to look during the operation;

    - lack of physical fitness to turn in their seats and look back (the overweight and/or the elderly);

    - having a car with poor rear view and being unable to use external mirrors;

    - believing that reversing is harder than driving ahead;

    - seeing just the present and refusing to think about the future;

    - driving without using their brain.
