Why do so many people give thumbs down for no reason?

I find the thumbs down rate here ridiculous!! Yes, somethimes answerers are rude or just give stupid answers but alot of the time, answer is researched and the answerer has taken care in answering honestly and as accurately as they can. Are people just trying to make sure their answers have the most thumbs up so they'll get chosen as best answer or what?? I just answered a question that asked people their names and why they were named that. Out of 20 something answers, everyone was given a few thumbs down....how can the person answering their own name be wrong??

Sorry for venting, it just really irritates me.

the people who give lots of thumbs down have no real power.

given a thumbs down makes them feel powerful, yet they never have to answer for it, or explain why they gave someone a thumbs down.

I agree. I don't understand how pple can thumbs down an answer that is niether right or wrong. But we have a lot of trolls around, so it is more than likely them who are thumb-downs answers.

I get really annoyed, too, because I work hard at giving a respectable answer, or it's just my stinkin' opinion, and I get a thumbs down. I guess I bruise easily, or it's just pregnancy hormones, because I get get so bummed when I see someone thumbs downed my answer! I only thumbs up if I agree with someone, I don't thumbs down! Meanies...

Yes, I agree- there are some obsessed thumbs-downers in this category. This is probably the most judgemental and nasty category in Answers... but I suppose that's what makes it fun ;)

Because there are a lot of really bored kids here with nothing better to do. I have a vent myself: I have pointed out two trolls on here recently so others wouldn't waster their time answering fake questions and in retaliation, the trolls reported me and I lost points! UGH sometimes it makes me want to quit YA!

Because they're ignorant.  If they don't agree with what you say, they give thumbs down regardless of the validity of said answer.

I've learned to ignore it.  I don't need validation from people I consider morons.

Lol I'm not sure how someone answering their own name could be wrong, but usually I find that people give thumbs down when they don't agree with what the person said.

it irritates me too. maybe someone reading just didn't like the answer.  it doesn't matter if its right or wrong.
