I have been using a Mac and do not have a lot of exprience with Windows XP.

I recently bought a new computer with Vista and I do not have a problem (yet).

What are the issues people have been having?

Thank you!!!

  1. Windows Vista was suppose to improve on security, but is annoying to the point that you can´t work without interruption of the system asking for approval of everything!

    Folder views.... another issue.

    Also interferes when working online.

    Overall: REALLY ANNOYING!

  2. windows vista is pretty cool for the most part...It just doesn't re-act as well with other downloaded programs or software that may be pre-existing on your hard drive...but then again you may never have any problems most people who may run into problems with windows vista already had those peoblems existing before they dowloaded windows vista...Have a great day beautiful...

  3. keep using for another month or so and u ll find out why it sucks!!

  4. i dont have a problem with it

but ppl say to much security

    but i really like vista

  5. it's funny...microsoft created vista with the notion that it would be easier to use, yet it's much harder.

XP is very user-freindly..everything is logical and self-explanatory. vista takes alot of getting used to just to figure everything out.

    EDIT; d**n, jag is good!

  6. I'll attempt to keep the answer relatively brief.

    1.  Resources to get similar speed.  Performance.

XP runs exceptionally well with 2G of RAM.  It's quite capable of running fairly well with any amount of RAM over 512M but 2G of RAM is the Windows XP Pro "sweet spot".  The sweet spot for RAM is defined as the point where you get a diminishing return by adding more RAM.   Vista will run with 2G of RAM but the "sweet spot" for Vista is 8G of RAM.  32bit Operating systems(Vista, XP, Leopard, Linux 32bit, etc. ANY other 32 bit OS) are incapable of addressing more than 3.5G of RAM.  Vista is still a 32 bit OS.  Unless you get a 64 bit version.  If you run WIndows XP on the same system you run Vista, Windows XP boots faster, performs most operations faster, and takes up less hard drive space.  This does not take into account for the Aero interface.  If you want to use the Aero interface, you need a much more capable dedicated video card.

    2. If you should get the 64 bit version to "fix" the RAM issue noted above, you run into a huge number of "driver compatibility" issues.  Once Microsoft releases a 64 bit ONLY OS, there will be incentive for the major hardware manufacturers to create high quality 64 bit drivers.

Some do, and some do not at this time.

    3. Major differences to the look, feel and operation.

Windows Vista performs the same major core functions Windows XP does.  In the process of creating Vista, Microsoft moved or changed the way that many common tasks are performed.  This was the first major face lift for Windows since Windows for Workgroups v. 3.11 was changed to Windows 95.  People like to find things in the old familiar places.  Vista has changed a lot of that.

    4. Stability.

Windows XP Pro, if installed and configured by someone with the appropriate technical knowledge is more stable than Vista.   Vista is more prone to technical difficulties.

    5. Costs.

From a corporate standpoint, you need more hardware to run Vista at the same or equivalent level of performance. Training your IT staff costs considerable sums of money also.  New IT certifications are required, etc.  From an end user standpoint, new versions of software are often required.  You need to buy a newer version of most popular software packages to take full advantage of Vista and may be forced to upgrade your software just to get basic functionality for Vista.  This may seem trivial to someone who just began to use Windows.  For me this would mean spending hundreds of dollars (if not thousands) on new software.

I think that covers the majority of the issues.  I hope I didn't bore anyone to tears.  I still use Windows XP Pro SP2 for Gaming mostly.  I have Vista 64 bit Ultimate on a separate isolated partition.  I also have Kubuntu 64 bit and Fedora 8 64 bit installed in separate isolated partitions.  Lately I've been favoring Fedora for it's stability and reliability. The fact that it, and the applications I run on Fedora are all free helps too.

    Edit: Thanks   The Revenge I  ; )

    I try.

  7. It's usually not the computer itself when you first get it, it is trying to make it work with software you already own, peripherals (like printers, game controllers, etc.), or making it work with older equipment, or playing system-intensive video games.

If you're mostly surfing the web and doing basic stuff, you probably won't have a problem

  8. I have been using Vista for over 8 months and not a single problem so far with it. My computer does have good enough CPU and RAM.

When I bought my computer, it came with Vista pre-installed. I also heard Vista rumours that it's not stable. So I installed XP in another partition and never used Vista for first few months. I started having problems with XP. Then I switched back to Vista and it hasn't given me any major problem.

In my experience, Vista is stable. I am not saying XP is bad. I use XP at work. I do lot of graphics and programming in Vista. So far so good.

And I do like the Vista interface. It's really cool. 10x better than XP although it may seem a bit extra and redundant.

  9. its not that is sucks like some are saying, it is just harder to use, it is really a better protected programme to windows xp. that's all, i went from windows xp to vista home premium and all i found was it was harder to get into programmes like restore etc. don't worry,if you have a problem i am sure if you bring it back to where you bought it they will sort it out for you, so don't be put off by it, so good luck with it. and enjoy don't be worrying and waiting for something to happen ok.

  10. its slow, and confusing compaired to xp, i got xp
