Why do so many people have their FF drafts so early?

Question

I've been in the same league for years, and our draft is the weekend before regular season starts. Why so early people? Injuries, Trades can happen during pre-season/camp.

for free yahoo leagues i don't really care when i draft...if my team gets hit with injury's i just try to make the best of it and play free agents week to week...10 team public leagues their is always someone you can pick up...now in my other league $50 to join we draft the week before and i take it much more seriously and with 20 teams you can't work with free agents b/c the free agents are free agents in real life...

I normally play 3 football league

One draft at the end of July

On in the beginning of august

On in the middle of august

I guess some people like them early because as soon as registration starts they get right into the mood and want to start drafting but then lose interest over the summer

Yep, I wait until late August to draft my teams. Image someone who's league had a draft in July and took Steve Smith or Brandon Marshall, sucks for them...

I guess they just can't wait.  I am in 4 leagues and in 3 of them we pick the Sun./Mon./and Tue. before the first game (on Thurs.).  This is by far, the wisest thing to do - players are finally all set.

Sometimes people will be away right before the start of the season. But you do run into a lot of injury/favre related issues.

What difference does it make? Even if trades and injuries happen, it effects everyone equally. Anyone could get hurt. Anyone could get traded. For that matter, trades and injuries can happen the first week of the season, and you're still in the same boat. It is not like you'll magically have more insight the weekend before the season starts. Fantasy sports is a relative business. It ultimately does not matter when you start your draft.

I have no idea!  My league isn't starting til the week before too.
