Question:

Why do so many people on Yahoo Answers think Europeans and British people dislike Americans?

There are plenty of British people on this site that express dislike for them, but this is a very small minority of ignorant people. They only dislike George Bush, not Americans. Most of them are smart enough to realize that Americans are no different than any other nationality. Wherever I've gone, Americans are extremely popular among the locals, and the girls go crazy over them. So I guess this opinion is just ignorant people. Don't listen to the ignorant Europeans on Yahoo Answers that say they hate Americans.

  1. I think they hate the stereotypical Americans who are fat and lazy and have redneck-like attitudes and refuse to stop watching football to get jobs, or the high class Americans from Scottsdale, AZ or Avon, CT who are rich and lazy and have no respect for money, people, or themselves.

  2. They like Americans?  Really?

I would like nothing more than for Europeans and the British to like us.  I guess Y/A isn't a very good way of gathering one's opinion about what other people think of Americans, since it is almost universally negative regarding Americans on here.

I've been to Europe several times (although not Britain, at least not yet) and I liked almost all of the people in every country that I went to.  I will say that sometimes those good feelings were not reciprocated, but perhaps they were the minority.

If they like us, that's great.  As I've always liked them, and have never had a reason to dislike them.  Just doesn't seem all the time that they do.  I've seen far too many examples in European and British media of Americans in general portrayed as the laughing stock of the world, and not a country of people who are in any way admirable.  Perhaps their media is as full of it as ours is back in the U.S.

Either way, if what you say is true, that's wonderful!  Cheers to my European and British cousins.

  3. Europeans:  They're just jealous..!

  4. This is so refreshing to hear. It really does upset me to hear the comments from all of the angry europeans on yahoo. So I am glad to know that not everyone shares those opinions.  Thanks!

I just wanted to add that Clark G should put his time to better use instead of regurgatating another mans thoughts! Your the wanker! Oh and we do have words for a wanker in the US, and they would also be used to describe you!

  5. Europeans and their cocky @ss selves...just because they have amazing accents and freakishly manly charms, they think they can treat us like dirt? well we'll show them...no more aid to the Europeans when they attack each other again...we'll see how they'll survive!

  6. this is irrelevant, i am american and i hate america, not just dislike HATE.

and i cant get along with 90 percent of americans on any sort of views because we are obese, and willingly ignorant, along with being overly nationalistic and patriotic to the point that it makes me and everyone outside of america sick.

  7. That's good to hear. I think a lot of people on YA get the feeling that we are disliked from certain parts of Europe, especially the British. It's what we've come to expect sometimes. I've been through some parts of Europe, and was either treated like dirt....or royalty, depending on where I was. It was hard to tell if it was because I was American, or just because I was a foreigner. I'm not the loud, brash or rude type of person, so I know I didn't fit the general "American tourist" stereotype.

Sometimes I see some of the questions/answers from other Americans on this site, and feel bad that they are in any way a representation of all of us, so I know that on YA we can often get a bad name because of the small minority of idiots, or kids that think they know it all, or the ever-present "tough guy" who trash talks people from behind a computer.

Either way, most of us have no problems with the Brits or Europeans in general, but there's always those idiots that could make you think otherwise, just like on your side of the pond.

I have a few friends from England visiting here for the first time, and they seem somewhat surprised at how friendly everyone has been towards them, so I think they came over with some preconcieved notions as well.

    Anyways, have a good one!

  8. We shouldn't hate each other. I don't think we do, but some people say so. The way we do things is different. It doesn't mean one is better than the other. It's just different.

  9. "Europeans... They're just jealous"

    Jealous of what?
