Why do so many people run away from bees than just staying still?

A lot of people run from bees because it's their instinct but, the way I was taught was to stand still and eventually it will go away. If you run,they will chase you and sting

It doesn't really matter if you stand still or run they'll go about their business as they please either way. It's when you try to slap them and you injure them even the slightest or make them feel threatened that they can become angry and try to sting. I've been stung twice and both times was because the bee was hurt, once by another person and the bee took it out on me and the other time I had the bee in my shirt and accidentally squeezed it. As long as you pose no threat to them, running or not, they have no reason to sting.
