So many people disregard ninjutsu bujinkan, and label it as being c**p etc, why is this? why are so many people against it? Is it due to the uncertainty of if your getting proper training? or the fact that ninjutsu wuld have been so well guarded by the people who trained in it back in the day?

  1. i was talking to a guy who taugh kung fu in japan once, and he is friends with a bujinkan sensei and he told me his friend gets that all the time and just says....let me throw you down and break your arm, and then we'll see how fake it is.

most of it is lineage...hatsumi has all these scrolls...but he wont let anyone date them for authenticity. also it looks a bit suspect when you look at his age, and the age of his teacher, and how far hatsumi had to travel to train with him...it just doesnt add up.

im not saying he's fake, from what ive seen hes very very good! and so are alot of his students. and well they sure know alot about alot of things noone else knows about so there is some truth to it.

also even in japan, maybe even more so in japan...alot of people still consider ninja as taboo, even disgraceful!

there are alot of reasons. it doesnt much matter, if you like the training, then do it.

  2. Sadly because of the quality of many of the instructors. Over the past two decades ninja anything has gotten insanely popular. With this popularity came waves of snake oil salesmen looking to cash in on adolescents fueled by anime inspired masturbatory fantasies of teenage turtles and morphin' rangers.

Look at the zillions of questions on here asking "how do I become a ninja" and you'll see for yourself. Plus being a ninja is really outmoded in today's culture. The closest things to ninjas in modern context are Marine Corps snipers, Navy SEALs, or Spec Ops commandos

  3. The reason that I am very skeptical is because I've taken some, and it sucked (nice people, though). I also know several others who've taken some at different dojo and it sucked.

I figured I must have just went to a bad place. I figured that Hatsumi and all of those guys must be pretty good, regardless. Then I saw Human Weapon, which made it look like a joke -- and it was pretty much the same stuff that you'd see over here.

and then there's the fact that both Jason and Bill made fools out of 13th and 15th degree blackbelts (whatever those are), despite the fact that they had no weapons training. all they did was swing their sticks. Martial arts are supposed to overcome untrained flailing, but two chosen representatives of Hatsumi's very own dojo failed to do so.

Now I'm sure that there are some good BBT schools out there. In fact, I know two people who have cross trained in Ninjutsu, who can/have whooped my butt. However, I'm solidly convinced that such schools are in the VAST minority.

  4. Hi there

Theres lots of reasons why this is so. The hardest thing for most people to get over even the Japanese is the image of the ninja thats been forced down thier throats for the last 50 years. Regardless of what the bujinkan does there will always be a thousand and one crackpots that want to be ninjas and its these type of people that do the most damage. The shians that travel and trail in japan dont care what people think. All that matters is the training!

If you are lucky to train in the right circles in this art then none of the above matters. All the facts are there for all to see. So are the scrolls and their techniques. Granted some of the stuff from togakure ryu is no longer taught. Not because it didnt exist but more because it has no practical use today!

Go to Japan and train or train with the right people that go on a regular basis. Thats the only way to learn this art. Its expensive and time consuming but if you want to really know your stuff you have to go to the source!

Bujinkan taijutsu or the overall movement of the student  comes from other schools 2 of which are traditional koryu jujutsu schools. So if these two schools are c**p then the rest can be said for modern jujutsu who's foundations come from the koryu arts!

Ninjutsu is only a teeny weeney little part of what we do yet its the bit that attracts the most attention. In fact if you dont master the principles from the other schools we study you wont be able to understand or learn the techniques of togakure ryu! That's the whole point of learning the 9 ryu ha.

You can get into arguments with a thousand and one people about this art vs judo or bjj etc. It doesnt really matter because people that post questions like this are searching for the holy grail! Oh and we dont train live or against resistance. Thats another one you will read. Once again train in the right circles!

An individaul makes the principles work for him not the art! Only an inexperienced person blames the art for thier mistakes or lack of understanding of it.

Yes there are bad practitioners in this art just like there are in any other. It makes me cringe sometimes to see the countless c**p on youtube and the internet. The key to identifing a good shidoshi is quite simple. They have to be a registered shidoshi kai. Another good way of identifiying the genuinue from the frauds is the real ones dont call this art ninjutsu anymore or go around tucking their tabi into their gi's!

Train with the right people. They know what their doing! Sod what other people think.

Let people argue over the koryu registration. Let them moan on about what techniques work. Let them comment about if  toda ever existed.

Let them watch youtube and beleiving that this is the art of turning oneself into a frog! Martial maturity you wont find it on here or the web thats for sure!

Rebit rebit. Oops i think i may have just turned myself into a toad!

    Best wishes

  5. unless u carry a sword with u...kinda useless

hand to hand combat is most effective

  6. They're probably just degrading what they can't have. Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is the one and only original Ninjutsu. As you probably know, it's made up of 9 ryuha of Ninjutsu. This is a VERY VERY effective and powerful art do to the influence of Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu. I don't know why so many people are against it, but I assure you it is NOT c**p. It is by FAR the best martial art I have ever studied. BBT is one of the last complete martial arts and most people think that anything other than the martial arts they've studied or seen on T.V. is "c**p". It's probably difficult for them to accept that a single martial art is better than all of their martial arts put together and mulitplied by 10.

  7. I don't think people question the existence and legitimacy of the Bujinkan dojo.

What people question is schools in the United States that claim to be teaching "Ninjitsu".

I think there are about 20 places in all of the United States that teach the real thing, but there are hundreds or thousands that claim to.  It's the whole "McDojo" factor.

  8. The answers here should show you the truth. Half know what they are talking about the others do not. Most expect that BBT is weapons and smoke bombs that is all. Those who have had the sad experience of training under frauds have alot of unhappiness to share. Then there are those who just want to roll on the ground and scrap and they end up in BBJ. But some want to take a life journey and build themselves up with a complete system of life , thats the ones who will tell you about how exciting their arts are. The rest just haven't found their way. It doesn't matter the art what matters is the journey and the goals.

    Good luck.
