Why do so many people seem to not mind going broke and laugh about it?

I like hear people saying that they have no money left all the time and seem so happy and laugh about it. If it were me I'd probably commit suicide but that's probably because I've saved up thousands of dollars.

  1. Maybe their families have money and will bail them out..

  2. Being broke has its advantages. You are not burden down with monthly payments. You don't have to sweat about you losing your job. Meals are easier to prepare and eating doesn't appear to be a big problem. You survive.

And the best part is that you start from scratch, but with a handful of life's lessons on what not to waste money on again.

How to respect your income. How to save for a rainy day.

  3. If you stay down about it that will just make things worse. Sometimes you laugh cause crying is not an option.

  4. because we like living and don't want what would happen to you happen to us.

  5. I am cool and happy about whatever the scene but yes not having money gets me alarmed as h**l

  6. Because I dont have to worry about car payments or loosing my house because I dont have a mortgage payment . If I dont like my neighbors I can pick up & move to another neighborhood, h**l I can move to another state if I feel like it. I consider myself very lucky. My friends accept me for who I am & not use me for what I have.Ever notice it takes a poor person to be the 1st to step up to offer a hand to someone who is down & out ,people with $$ have an attitude & have alot to learn in the compassion dept. I also have alot of faith in God & yes he always provides for me what I need.

  7. Perhaps they are optimistic, and know that things will get better. :)

  8. "Somethings are so serious we are forced to laugh at them."

    Niles Bohr.

    Perhaps this is why.

  9. There are dozens of little ways to save money.  You go to a friend's house to watch a video rather than renting it.  You eat vegetables from a garden instead of going to the store.  These people must have a plan or trick that they fall back on when their bank account gets near zero dollars.   If you could avoid owning or driving a car, that would save thousands of dollars in one year.

  10. Honestly, we laugh about it because there's nothing else we can do. When the price of everything continues to go up, your income continues to go down, and you've cut out everything that you can-- you can either laugh or cry. Crying is not advisable in public, so we laugh. Part of the reason we're laughing is because we are looking at our options. Suicide is always an option. After a while, that's funny, too.

  11. May be they have good imaginations so they don't need money to fulfill their daily quota of happiness?

Granted, money is fairly important to life, but money is still only part of life, it is not the whole of life.

  12. because we like living it is a gift and if you go boke theres no point in crying

  13. Epictetus, the Roman stoic philosopher said, that nothing is ever as bad as the fear and dread of it. Not even death itself.

and speaking from personal experience, when you hit bottom, once you get over the shock and horror, and worrying about what people think of you, its sort of a sick relief.

When you can't see how things could get worse,,  at least you stop worrying.

and you see.. here is.. failure, poverty, disgrace, and humiliation.. and you are still breathing... you can stand it.

I haven't managed to laugh about it, not when I'm sober anyway, and not in  a wholesome way, more of a Jack Nicholson in "The Shining" laugh.
