Why do so many people throw their trash from fast food places out of their cars in front of my house?

The nearesr fast food place is 15 miles from here.

By the time a person opens their sack of food and eats it 15 miles have passed and that puts them at your house :)

Because you let them. I raise enough of a conniption (and am also rather large and menacing) that kids actually turn down their stereos as they pass, AND smile politely.

I would suggest that, even though it's not your trash, you keep it picked up.  If people see that there's other trash around, they are more likely to pitch it.  I have had the same problem, except people just stop and eat their meals and toss their trash in the street.  When I HAVE caught them, I give it back to them and tell them to trash their own neighborhood.  We keep it clean, and we haven't had a problem.
