Don't know why I've never noticed this before, but I was on the highway today--a beautiful, sunny day around 10 am--and about 40% of the cars had their headlights on.

  1. In Driver training, they taught us, as soon as you get in the car, turn your headlights on...  Day time running lights are not enough :)

It helps other drivers see you.. makes you more noticeable..

Right from my Young Drivers book..

"Lights on at all times, to protect your space, both in front and behind..

Manually turn on the low beam headlights to make it easier for other road users to see your vehicle.. Studies have shown that this can reduce your chance of a collision for 20%.

Although vehicle sold in some countries are equipped with Automatic Daytime Running Lights, these are usually far dimmer than low beam headlights, and do not activate the rear lights.

After dark, use high beam headlights whenever its practical to avoid over-driving your headlights and to protect your space by helping other drivers see you sooner"

  2. Daytime running lights.

My truck has them and they are on whenever the engine is running. It's a safety factor and it works just fine for me. Many vehicles these days are equipped with them.

  3. You will see the headlights before you see the car.  So improved visibility of the approaching vehicle.   This is a standard feature with all new cars.  The headlights are always on when the engine is running.  Same goes for motorcycles.  Your eyes are automatically drawn toward the lights.

  4. It is your choice, mostly it is safety,or the the sensors on the car.

  5. Maybe They Don't Know. Who The F Gave Me 4 Thums Down And who gave everyone esle thums down?!

  6. Yeah, most cars nowadays turn them on automatically. It's kind of a safety thing, in case you're driving in bad conditions and forget to turn them on or there's suddenly a situation where you need them on. Mine however, on my 1997 Corolla, DO NOT turn on automatically. Nor do they turn off automatically when I leave the car...

  7. In some countries it's mandatory.

  8. They are equipped with what is called (DRL) daytime running lights and they are on for safety reason so that you can see the vehicles better..

  9. I turn my headlights on during the day. The more visability the better. Some cars headlights come on automatically, like Volvos. It is a safety feature.
