Why do so many reported rapes go unsolved?

I know of several rapes cases where the victims were raped by a strangers. The victims gave detailed descriptions of their attackers and had rape kits done to collect DNA evidence. Still, no arrests have been made in any of these cases. What gives?

DNA is not of any value unless you have a suspect sample to compare it to.

There is no automated DNA database that can be checked electronically, it needs to be compared manually.
