I mean, it has become built into the cultural trend of today's time. Girls as young as 12 wear short skirts, sleeveless, tight pants etc, not to mention more grown up girls. It looks like "s**y and attractive" dresses are more desirable than "beautiful and modest" dresses. What are the factors behind these? Lack of parental guidance? Media, music and movies?

  1. Yeah, there's a lot of tarty clothes. I think a lot of it is because the clothes are being made in warm countries (like China) where people do wear less clothes (the same as the flip-flop mania--whose idea was it to make fur lined flip flops--they don't work in the snow.)  I also think a lot of girls don't know how to wear things, a lot of times the thin cotton shirts are supposed to be layered.  Also the short skirts are supposed to be worn with tights.

  2. Media and peer pressure.

Women & girls are bombarded with the message that we HAVE TO BE s**y  & PRETTY ALL THE TIME - doesn't matter how old.

Pre teens that dress "s**y" sometimes have mothers that encourage or dress that way too.

  3. Because they are tramps...............

  4. To sum it all up:  Modern day society practically brainwashes girls and women into becoming more and more sexual in a way to succeed and survive.  If you aren't "hott and s**y" then who are you?  If you want to be successful and live a great life you have to be skinny and very willing to do anything for it.  Men have found ways to control women and this is it:  Women cannot be anything unless they are s**y.  They've found ways ingenious ways to do it too; Through women themselves!  All the celebrities who are hott and s**y, all the models and ads where they are half dressed and look so happy, all the diets and ads about being "healthy".  It's brainwashed girls and women.

  5. all of the above, but mostly parental supervision is lacking

  6. Some girls just like it. every one blaming "Lack of parental guidance? Media, music and movies?"  forget the small fact that theres a thing called free will and not every girl is influenced that easy. I wear tight jeans because loose ones make me feel uncomfortable, ect. 12 year olds should not dress as 15+ year olds, so this is more to blame on the parents because at that age they should still control what they buy the kid.

  7. well, i wear short dresses because i think they're cuter than those long ones. same with short shorts. its summer, i want to look cute. i have all school year to cover up and wear non provocative clothing. no, i don't think its bad parenting skills. i think my parents are good parents and they don't mind how i dress during the summer. it's just the trends now. just like your generation had trends that i'm sure adults didn't approve of.

edit: i'm 15 by the way.

  8. theyre s***s

  9. combo of both, plus just a popular trend right now in female clothing. it will probably be not as fashionable in a short while.

  10. EXCUSE ME is it really anyones bisness it doesent matter teens should be able to dress how they want

  11. Well have you seen the inventory in these store it all like that

  12. Capitalism, lack of parental guidance and money-hungry teen networks/clothing companies.

    It's really disturbing.

  13. ever looked in the girls section of the department store?..all girl clothes are like that. it's just the style now...

  14. it's everything from media, to their favorite young celebritys dressing that way.

    i mean take miley cyrus.

she's only 15 and she dresses and acts like a total s**t

she has fans as young as 5 and is that the message she's sending to them?

plus, some parents want their daughters to be beautiful and they think that by making them dress like that, they'll come across as more beautiful and desirable

  15. Media is making them want to grow up to fast

  16. I think it's the media and young girls trying to grow up too fast.

  17. Media is a huge part. Girls see it and they want to be it. TV or magazine says "You aren't cool unless you are wearing this!" and they buy every bit of it. The desire to grow up by youngsters is overwhelming these days. Not all girls buy into this charade, and those are the girls that are worth it. Pretty and modest is hard to come by, but they are out there.

  18. Media, seeing other or older girls do it, parents not caring. Oh, I could go on.

  19. Its not 1950's AMerican anymore.

Get with the times, and stop worrying what other people are wearing.

  20. Media. Thumbs down? Are you effing serious? How am I wrong?

The media wants girls to show off everything and have perfect bodies and cake makeup on their face and be S****y.

If you disagree with that, you must be a s**t yourself.

  21. Sometimes it is because of lack of parental guidance and the media. It can also be due to the fact that these girls are insecure and want attention...OR they simply want to flaunt what they have.People have their own style and we shouldnt judge. As long as these girls respect themselves and behave properly,it doesnt matter.

  22. A mix of all of them i'd say.I think most young women feel inadequate maybe and so they dress in order to get attention and help boost there self ~ esteem.Maybe media influences them somewhat. If one turns on the television and see's young women who are famous and successful then they want to be like them, though of course not all females like to dress in such a way.I think the beauty industry and the media has made most women feel dreadful about themselves, they've created this 'perfect' ideal of what they think a women should be,even though it's completely unatainable,so as a result,we have a western world full or vanity, insecurities, greed and ultimatly, unhappiness. Not many people feel that they can be themselves. There's a definate fear there.

  23. I think they see stars like Britney Spears wearing S****y stuff so they think it's okay. For example my friend who is only 12 just bought a dress that just barely goes past her butt and she loves it. i think it disguisting

  24. i think it's peer pressure more than anything.

then it's media versus parental guidance, or lack there of.
