Question:

Why do some Americans think Canadians are anti-American?

A large portion of Canada disagrees with right-wing politics in America, true. A majority of Canadians think the US (and the world) would be better off if G. W. Bush was not leading the "most influential country on earth". Many Canadians believe the tragedy of 9/11 was exponentially increased by the tragedy in Iraq that Bush calls a "victory". I'm sure that's what the terrorists called 9/11. Many Canadians also believe that 9/11 was motivated by hate, and that the Afghanistan response was motivated by a desire to do good, and not out of retribution. In fact, Canada is one of the most pro-American countries according to numerous surveys (which I admit, aren't always reliable.) The majority of Americans are great people, and the majority of Canadians know that. But some people just thrive on making conflict. Those are the people that argue against American policies out of hate/jealousy, and make the real debaters look less genuine. Those are the people that view Canada as anti-American. I live in Canada. We are not anti-American.

  1. i will say this....i did not vote for george bush...and alot of americans are ashamed that they voted for him...thank god his final term is up soon...and now it will get even more interesting.

  2. I'm a CANADIAN I don't hate no one okay.

  3. I just think you are all FRENCH... and you know what the French people think of us..

  4. What can I say?  Some of us are miserably xenophobic, even to the point of fearing our pleasant neighbors to the north.

  5. Bush was democratically elected by the American people, if you hate Bush's judgement you have to hate the judgement of at least 51% of the country

  6. well canada is an entirely different country so it isnt Anti-American its just not part of america. and so canada can mind their own business and us americans can mind our own business. ^-^

  7. While Canada is the most pro-American country in the world, because it is a free country, with better freedom of speech than the USA, people are entitled to hold their own opinions there. And many Canadians are of the feeling the USA made a big mistake electing white trash for President, trash who started an unnecessary war and who is destroying the value of the US dollar. And who raided the treasury to enrich his friends.

However, that does not stop Canadians being the number one country for visitors to the USA, and maintaining a trade worth almost $2,000,000,000 q day between the countries.

And think that with Canada being the most pro-USA country in the world, what does that say for the opinion of all the other countries.

  8. I'm American and I personally don't think Canadians are Anti-American in general. I'm sure their anti-American people everywhere even here in the U.S. we have anti-Americans.

  9. Well most of the Canadians I've met would of fallen into that category (I've seen a little less than 100 though, internet doesn't help disprove that assertion either). Which may not represent the majority at all.

Nevertheless I do feel that Canadians are anti-American (just my personal opinion), likewise with Europe.

I don't see why this bothers you so much though.

    Added:

Americans just need to work out some issues and do what they believe is best for them and their country and not what the world wants them to do. If these things coincide, great even better, but this isn't a popularity contest though.
