  1. It has to have a lid to Bar-B-Q. otherwise it is just an open grill. The lid holds in heat to speed up cooking times and holds in smoke to flavor the items you cook, All sorts of wood chips are available commercially to aide in flavoring foods. I like finding my own. Fruit and nut trees' chips soaked in water for 15 minuets then sprinkled on the fire just before it is done adds the most marvelous flavors. Good Eating!!

  2. If you are cooking a large piece of meat such as a lamb butterfly, you will need a lid so it will cook properly.  If you only intend to do the usual sausages and chops, then you don't really need one.

  3. To protect the grill, stones, and other parts from the elements.

Most BBQ's don't have stainless steel grills and they'd rust.

And to help keep the heat in to cook larger items.

  4. Plus, if you leave it out, it will rust !  I keep making that same mistake

  5. The main reason for the lid is that it helps retain heat which will cook your food faster and much more economical.  The lid also helps keeps things clean and protected from the elements. You will save the extra cost of the lidded type in fuel, cleanliness and less corrosion.

  6. stops birds especialy those bloody big crows from pinching burgers,so best to buy one with lid
