  1. because hispanics are friendly and if u r hispanic it just natural to go to people who r just like u

  2. At my high school they grouped together because they were all related to each other...we only had one hispanic family (New Hampshire).

  3. Because they are like every other group of people who tend to hang-out together.

Basically, it is about relating to people.  People with shared experience tend to relate to each other better.

  4. Who would you hang out with if you were a man wearing a Ruth Buzzy hairnet?

  5. Because they have more in common with each other. It's not just them. Most people tend to stick to their own because that's who they relate to. They are still a minority in this country and it's especially hard for members of minority groups to sometimes assimilate into the larger society (racial, linguistic, ethnic, etc. minorities).

  6. maybe you just notice it more for whatever reason? It's natural to go to people who are similar. i know i do. i'm asian, and i always end up sitting with asians at lunch.

plus, if they all speak spanish, which alot of hispanics do, it would make sense for them to seek each other out, plus a shared culture allows for in jokes, and allows you to speak more freely b/c you don't have to worry about offending someone who doesn't get the joke/reference/whatever..

  7. Hispanics may be part of a group that is shunned from others, thus clustering together to have company, as any outgroup would.

As for a genetic point of view on this question, hispanics originated from the pre-colonial indian tribes such as the mayan, aztecs, incans, and so on which had a tribe-mentality of always forming gangs in which to combat, breed, and maintain safety.  This is also the reason as to why the hispanic culture has a tendency toward gangs in criminal violence and activity.

  8. share same background, similar culture, etc, they ovb fit in to their own group, altho i would advise them to get out there and meet other ppl from diff backgrounds, but its not unknown that ethnic groups stick together, and i think racism does come in to this, cos ethnic groups are prone to racism or institutional racism or some form of discrimination, atleast when theyre with their "own kind" if you like, it eradicates that chance of sterotyping/racism..somewhwat

  9. First off, every group clusters together. People are afraid of being alone and seek to be accepted by others. Secondly, they cling together because culture is important to them and they share culture.

  10. hispanics tend to include the family as a whole and not only rely on the immediate family, so at home u see uncles, cousins, grandparents, ect. in and out of the household, and so when hispanics go to school they tend to maintain that act as a security or more like a traditional custom, even thought they dont realize it, and other ethnic groups can notice it while hispanic dont because they are use to doing it at home, not that other groups are not close to their relatives, but they may have a different point of view about social life in their household compared to the outer side of society, more independence rather than togetherness 24/7.

  11. In psychological term, we called this collectivism. People with that kind of culture like to group together.  Their social needs should be fulfilled.  They feel secured when they group together.  Not just Hispanics, Chinese also.

  12. I think we need to be careful about generalizations. We as humans tend to gather with those we have the most in common with. It's not just the Hispanics exhibiting this behavoir. You see it in all ethnicities. In whites, it is the less obvious things that group us together. Popular, geeks, stoners, cheerleaders, jocks, etc. It used to be the Irish, Jewish, Italian, etc. It's just more obvious with people of a different race as their skin color and physical attributes are the first thing to meet the eye. But if you look more objectively, I'll bet you'll see some people of non-white ethnicity in all or some of the other groups I mentioned. It's just not as noticable because their numbers in those groups are much lower. Try a little experiment in observation. Start intentionally looking for non white kids hanging out with groups of white kids. Not just once or twice. Make it a concious habit for a month. I'll bet you see more than you expected. Many times we see what we expect to see. And if you wouldn't mind, let me know the results. It would help with a paper I'm writing. Thanx.
