  1. when you swim for something like the olympic trials drag must be minimal and goggle straps hurt like h**l when they rip out hair. so one for hair and one for goggles. also, swim caps can be big and leave folds (that have drag to them) so with an extra cap on it creates less drag.  basically its all for speed.

  2. It could have something to do with the new kind of caps, but I thought it might also have something to do with the goggles.

A lot of athletes put their cap on over their goggles so in case the cap falls off, they'll still have goggles. However, google straps don't adhere very well to hair, so there's another cap underneath so the rubber straps can have more rubber to stick to.

But I don't know for sure. That's just my theory.

  3. Less water resistance and a better feel for the water. The combination should be latex cap, goggles, then silicon cap.  This combination smooths out the silicon cap, keeps the silicon cap in place (mine bunches up without a latex cap), and eliminates resistance over the goggle strap.  Remember, less water resistance = faster times and when 1/100 of a second is the difference between 1st or 2nd ... every little bit helps!

  4. superstition maybe? or maybe they just want to make sure its tight so it stays on?

  5. There are new speedo caps out that pretty much mold to your head and make it more streamlined. Once they finish the race they take off the (usually) black or white cap and they have their team cap underneath to represent it.

  6. because it is tighter...the tighter the faster u go...
