Why do some TV commercials get extemely loud?

When watching TV and commercials appear, many of them go up in sound by 2 to 3 times the show level. Why?

  1. You need to update your cables and connections to your stereo.

    If the sound is just coming from you tv alone - its probably outdated.

  3. They hope to get our attention.  ANDDDD they do, even to extent of annoying us.

    This was addressed by the FCC one time but the media told them that if they were required to lower the decibals of the ads, they would merely lower the decibals of programming, which would require that a listener would have to turn up the volumn.  This in turn would make the ads higher in decibals in relation to programming.

    The result would be the same.
