i realise that there is a big different between what some hockey fans consider a good logo and what i do. even if i trey, i cant understand how someone could hate the Mighty Ducks, Penguins (90ers), Sharks, and Sabres (late 90ers) logos but on the other hand think that the Bruins, Rangers, Maple Leafs and the old Minnesota Northstars logos is cool. If you ask me they are really really borring. it seems to be the same with the NBA logos, people aparently hate the Pistons and Rockets logos from the 90ers and the Raptors, Hornets and Timberwolves logos. i can clerarly see why someone would love the Redwings, Blackhawks and the old Sabres logos... this is truely beautifull logos but the Maple Leafs and Bruins? why is logos with wild and beautifull animals considered ugly while a leaf with script, a B inside a circle or an N with a star is considered good looking. please tell me, because i dont understand it. Why is many simple and borring logos considered good looking?

  1. This may be hard to believe, but different Americans have different opinions about different logos.

Also, tastes change over time. These days marketers do polls and focus groups to help determine logos, colors and uniforms.

For myself, I am largely indifferent to most team logos. I tend to like sports history and tradition, so usually favor more traditional uniforms and logos...but not always.

Montreal's CH has long been my favorite, but I can't think of any logo that bothers me. I think some of the color combinations aren't so great and I was not enthusiastic when it seemed like every NHL, NBA, and NFL team in the 90's switched to a dark (usually black), bad boy look.

  2. Well, when you get older, you'll realize that all people will have their likes and dislikes, and that where they come from has no bearing upon what they choose either way.

  3. My best friend once said that he only likes sports logos that are simple, because he remembers when he was little and would try to draw them all over his notebooks when he was bored during class.

I agree with him... simple logos are classy and awesome.  Can you imagine kids trying to draw the thrashers or preds logo on their notebook?

I think (as someone else said) that many of the newer logos are too over the top, too colorful, and too complicated.  It's just personal preference, it's not an american/canadian distinction.

EDIT:  Heh, I never said I wasn't good enough to draw them!  I'm actually a pretty good artist.  But, I'd say the majority of 7-10 year olds can't draw many of the newer logos.  That's when I remember really getting behind my teams.

I personally just like simple logos better... I think they look better, but I think kids will become bigger fans if they can draw the logo and feel a connection to the team.  I remember drawing Yankees logos a lot when I was little.

  4. Personal opinion. Something you should understand, since you seem to have them in abundance.

Take another look at the wild logo though... The duality is amazing.

I do really love that 90s Pens logo though... But I don't much like the old sabres logo.

    It's all personal taste...

  5. People hate animals. People love script and symmetry. Easier to look at. Which is why the people considered to be the most beautiful have the most symmetric faces. One side is much like the other.

Talk about the Might Ducks logo. That abomination goalie mask, duck billed thing had no symmetry at all. It could of if it was face forward but it wasn't. Look at all logos and the good ones and the ones that catch the eye have some symmetry to them somewhere. Red Wings, Old Sabres, Bruins, Old/Current Pistons, Leafs, Rangers.

  6. The 90's penguins logo (the "flying penguin", which is by the way an oxymoron) was stupid. It was a failed attempt at trying to look more modern. I'm glad they went back to the skating penguin, and the other teams are just hated because they suck. :D Go Pens.

  7. It's personal opinion. I believe you are one of the few people who doesn't like the Rangers, Bruins, and Leafs logo. I love all of the original 6 logos, to me, they look classic. As Ryan said some of the newer logos are over the top. The Mighty Ducks logo looked like something for peewee hockey, not something a  grown man would want to wear.

  8. They can play shirts vs. skins for all I care. Just play. It's hockey, not a fashion contest.

  9. Only Americans think that, huh?

PS- "Pwn" is so incredibly not funny

  10. theyre not boring, theyre classic. these new ones the expansion teams are getting are sometimes over the top. too many weird colors. the classic jerseys will always be the best. and the Maple Leaf and Bruin B are 2 of the best.

  11. We're Canadian. The Leafs logo looks good because it is to d**n cold to waste energy on hating something as mundane as a logo. Also, the Leafs suck hard. At least the Logo will not let us down season after season. It is always there.

  12. It's about easily recognizable and powerful symbols.  Most classic logos were very simplistic...but one where everyone could identify it with that team

  13. I like several of the old logos.  Blackhawks are the best, Rangers anfd the bruins are cool too.  i also like The Avalanche logo alot.  But some of the new 3rd jerseys I do not care fr much.  That 3rd Oilers jersey looks like something out of a comic book.  very bad.  The mustard looking Preds jersey is bad too.

  14. Americans think that just simple, red text is a good logo for some university, and of course, they are too dumb to understand that this isn't a classy sport, they dont need a classy logo for hockey. Have you seen the Columbus Blue Jackets new logo? Thats what you call a logo. A Black "B" in a Black and yellow circle is not a good hockey logo. Probably the best classy logo in hockey is Montreals. But another good classy sports logo (in football) is the Patriots old logo and yet, Americans thought it sucked.

  15. because its the hockey that counts, not the badge.

i love the penguins logo, and the maple leafs. i think its just conflict of opinion.
