Why do some animals run off to die alone?

  1. It is natural instinct for a lot of pack animals to die alone. They do not want to slow down the herd/pack or make it vulnerable to predators, so they seperate themselves from their packmates. It is still a common instinct among cats and dogs, even though they have become domesticated. They consider their owners and families as their pack, and thereofore hide away from them when they are dying.
