Question:

Why do some (atheists especially) feel the need to cut everyone down?

I have talked with people of many religions. lots of them. in my own personal experience, atheists (i know, not a religion) are the most prompt at spiteful remarks and sarcasm. they are definitely not the only ones that do it though. I would rate christians as second for the "most likely to punish you for speaking" award. also, most christians will not attack you if they think you are a fellow christian. Atheists generally bash on anyone, regardless of who they are or what they believe. I'll probably even get assaulted for this question. i'm definitely generalizing a great deal here, and i know and apologize.

  1. when you are at the bottom of the pile, you have to fight to rise.

  2. *drink*

    You must be new here.

How long did you live in Oz before you moved?

  3. And you sit there and intentionally scapegoat a sect of society, and try to play it off as innocent. Hypocrite.

  4. Im still confused why I got an email from an Athiest condemning me to h**l?

  5. "Christians" do the same thing.

  6. Because I'm right and everyone else is wrong.

  7. Atheists generally bash on anyone, regardless of who they are or what they believe.

Which just goes to show that we are the most unbiased, unprejudiced, caring and supportive people on earth! Come into the light, fellow human and feel the love!

  8. Those of us who are better take it to the next level.

I can't help it if there are people who still believe in a book from 2000 years ago. It's just silly.

  9. Your question is legitimate, and I certainly won't rag on you for asking it.  All too often, someone's religious views are so off the wall (e.g. young earth creationism) that they simply show a culpable lack of attention to the evidence, and I, for one, have no qualms about castigating such people for their intentional ignorance.

  10. Misery loves company

  11. Sorry. I don't suffer fools gladly.

I don't punish speaking or disagreement. I point out where people are using flawed logic,  show signs of inferior education or just plain lying. If more of you thought before you spoke, you'd be mocked less. That is true of everyone everywhere.

  12. Well we aren't all bad people. When I make fun of people, it's done sarcastically.

  13. for me it's just hard for me to accept the lack of education with respect to people of faith.  Most really don't know much beyond their bible so - it's disappointing and like golden boy above mentioned - IT"S JUST SILLY

  14. You are hanging around the wrong people!  Why is that?

  15. I wouldn't say any particular group is likely to jump you more than any other group, it comes down to the extremists.  It doesn't matter if the extremist is christian, atheist, hindu, muslim, whatever... they can't tolerate views that don't match theirs so they attack everyone who isn't like them.

There tends to be a higher percentage of atheist extremists because, in the us at least, they're living as a massive minority to people they feel are threatening to them.  There tends to be lower percentage of christian extremists but there are so many Christians in general there ends up being a lot of them.  Same thing happens in Islam.

I don't really have a problem with anyone who doesn't assault my beliefs. Live and let live... but there are a lot of people on here who get pretty nasty pretty quick, but that's also part of being anonymous and non-accountable, in person they wouldn't be nearly so obnoxious.
