When I drive at night, most auto headlights have the usual yellowish-white color, but some definitely have a blue color. Are they a special type of headlight?

  1. I believe they're called xenon

  2. Yes,Some of the Newer Cars have a different bulbs. You can find some bulbs that will work in your car but others you need a transformer/ballast..

  3. The answer is yes, and no.

No, because there are bulbs that anyone can buy that have a bluish tinted glass that gives the appearance of a bluish light, or you can go out and buy slip-on covers to change the appearance of the light that the bulb gives off..

And yes because, there are HID ( High Intensity Discharge ) lighting kits that you can buy to replace your factory units.. And some cars, mostly newer higher-end cars, are coming from the factory with these HID kits pre-installed. They look anywhere from yellow, to blue, and even purple. It all has to do with the temperature that the gas inside the bulb burns at. These lighting kits are considerably more expensive than regular lighting, but they do give cars that higher-end look. They also light more surface area, and night time visibility is greatly improved the majority of the time.

    Hope that helped!

  4. The bulbs have a blue coating on them.  This coating makes

    the light whiter in appearance.
