Why do some baseball bats have holes at the top?

alright so im newer to baseball and i went to buy a bat and noticed some have holes carved at the tops. why is that???

  1. It was probably a Nike bat. Every company has their own special marketing tool, Nike's is that the cap increases swing speed by up to 3%. The claims probably aren't untrue, but aren't realistic either.

    If you're talking wood bats, I've never seen that.

    I read the question completely wrong, sorry. I thought it meant "some holes carved at the top" not just "some have holes"

  3. It lightens the bat a little bit there, allowing you to have more weight in the sweet zone and it improves aerodynamics a little bit, but I don't anyone this side of semipro would notice.

  4. Longer bat, less weight.  That top part taken out makes a difference.  Most players use it that way
